Business Mini Series: Starts NOW!

Hi guys,

If you follow me on FB, you’ve seen my video shares from my FB group, Bottleneck Busters.  It’s where I share all types of advice, resources, inspirations & encouragement for business owners and those intending to start their own business.  I always give an honest, open perspective on opening your own business.  So if this is something you’ve wondered about or are currently struggling with, be sure to follow the series!  I’ll be highlighting some of my past videos from earlier in 2017.  Let’s get started…

Using Instagram For Your Business? Here’s Some Quick Tips!

Instagram is awesome.  If you know how to utilize it.  Here are 5 things I’d suggest from experience.

  1.  Know if you should use it.  It’s not for every business.  But if you have a visual business (where seeing your product/service in action would help people see & understand what you do) & it’s worth the time & tools needed, go for it!
  2. Know how to use it.  Take one of the billion free webinars on it.  Try SCORE.ORG first & foremost.  They have nothing to gain by you learning from them & they’re free.  They have reputable info & the mentors in the organization have been where you are & retired as a champ (multi billion dollar industry leaders) in their respective arena.
  3. Know when to use it.  Don’t be on there posting all times of the day and night.  There are some basic rules (most people say no more than one to 3 posts a day, but it depends on your business).  Be careful when you post because there’s a magical hour when all the pervs come out and #instagood becomes #instagross.
  4. Know where to use it.  This is not the time to use your bathroom selfies.  Unless your business is about taking bathroom selfies.  Taking good, clear, interesting (conversation starting) photos that will DIRECT PEOPLE TO YOUR BUSINESS is key.  Yes, food pics get you likes, but you know doggone well you don’t sell donuts, so stop  posting about it.  Your pics should tell people what you do, how you do it & show how your clients/customers love you.
  5. Know who to reach by using it.  Remember the magical perv hour I spoke of earlier?  There’s also a magical customer hour and a magical business contact hour.  BE SURE TO KNOW THE DIFFERENCE.  I notice that I have a lot of others who have jewelry businesses following me.  That’s cool, I guess, but I stopped following them back.  Why?  They skew my numbers.  I’m looking for customers more than networking on IG.  If I want to contact business owners, I can DM them.  Or use LinkedIn.  But when I use my Iconosquare data to see how I’m doing (I’ll give more info on that in a sec), I don’t want to use data that will tell me when to reach another business.  I want to look at my feed and see a bunch of women who wear statement jewelry & will always want more.  If it’s not showing me that, I’m doing something wrong.  Speaking of IG data, try the Iconosquare site.  It’s free for basic info & you can upgrade to get even more.  But I can use it to track my analytics on IG.  It hasn’t let me down yet.  I know when my followers are on, what filters & pics they like most, what hashtags are hot and which hashtags I’m under utilizing.  I can see my own feed, the feeds of my followers & who I’m following.  But the best part is the analytics by far.  I love that the site will tell me when the best days & times are to post based on my followers’ interactions with me.  Who doesn’t want that?  There are a ton of other resources that would take too long to expound on.  So check it out.  Tell me what you think.

Alrighty, I hope this helps.  If you have questions, just drop me a line!

UPDATE:  As I was checking my optimization (where all the really good data is), I found out that Iconosquare now charges for analytics.  Yeah, it’s a whopping $2.40 a month now!  But I think that it’s more than worth it if you use it on a regular basis.  Anyone’s business would greatly benefit from it to avoid just putting stuff out there and hoping for the best.  I’d pay someone just to not have to figure all that data out myself!!  And the service has been free for 4 years, so I think they’re more than  justified to ask for that amount.  What do you think?

UPDATE ON THE UPDATE:  Anyone using IG now see that they’ve added the insights area to the top row of buttons in your feed.  YAYYYY!  If you’re serious about your business, track that data from week to week to see how you’re doing.  It’s made a world of difference for our businesses.  I also now use an app that tracks when people follow/unfollow me.  Some people follow you then immediately dump you once you follow back.  It makes their numbers look good and it’s a jerk move.  Like dumping someone via text.  Homey don’t play that!  (I just really dated myself.  Wow.)  Anyway, stay on top of that data!  If you need my help with it, just let me know and I can do a video to help you out.

This Tip Right Here is GOLDEN!!!

Hey y’all!

There are many things I regret listening to.  Most are pieces of advice from my mother.  However, this time I got one right!!!  I was in Walmart the other day and was led by the Spirit (no other way to put it) to the meat aisle.  I thought, “Well, they do mark meat down on Sundays, I guess that’s why I felt the urge to come back here.”  I walked to my usual areas looking at the big back of chicken quarters for $6.90 for 10 pounds.  Hmmm, good deal, but I’m tired of eating that.  I went to the beef, “Nope, you’re not tearing my tummy up!”, then to the pork.  A roast maybe?  $15???  Man, those kids will tear that thing up like vultures in 2-3 days!  Then I looked at the ribs.  I was like, “Why am I looking at ribs?”    Then I heard my mother’s voice:

When buying meat, always check the price tags.
Sometimes the stocker will make a mistake on the sticker
and they have to honor the price.

Y’all, I started digging like a yard dog.  I’m slinging rib slabs left and right.  Then, there it was…

Can you see it??  Let me zoom in closer for you.  Holler when you see it.20170611_101608[1]

Yes!!!  Someone made a SIGNIFICANT boo-boo on this one!  So I fed my family last night for under $1.50.  Amen and amen!  Hallelujah!  Believe it or not, there were leftovers!  Praise the Lord.  Ok, I’m done now.  I hope this little tip has helped you and has encouraged you to take a little extra time to dig for some treasure at your local store.

God bless,

When’s the Last Time You Actually LAUGHED?

Mean but true statement:  Some of us take life too ****** seriously.  We are so busy being busy, doing, trying, striving, struggling, pressing, stressing, fasting, praying, laying prostrate that we suck all the freaking joy out of what should have been a “yoke is easy”, burden is light” life.  Man, even Jesus laughed, had joy, smiled and went out to dinner with his crew!  Girl, if you are killing yourself trying to live your priorities are ALL wrong!  People should be jealous of Christians because they see how blessed we are.  Not looking at us like “She looks busted, has a bad attitude, got everybody in here stressed, and she wants me to follow her religion?  Bye, Felicia!”  That’s why we have to be careful of the testimony we express and display.  Trust God.  Get your nails and feet done and chit chat in a normal way with average people.  Get back to yourself.  Go eat something yummy and fattening and don’t stress about it.  Take a friend out, buy your kid that stupid, unnecessary thing they have been bugging your about-within reason, give your boss a thank you gift (even if they’re a butt), stay in your husband’s arms instead of running off to do chores.  In other words, MORE MARY, LESS MARTHA!  What was wrong with Martha?  She was crazy!  You got Jesus in the room and you trying to COOK???!  Child, I woulda been all up in HIS FACE!!!  Ok, let me calm down.  Please enjoy your life.  Take time to reflect on what I said earlier, go back and look at what I said and STOP:

“killing yourself trying to live”

I love you & the Father does too!

Today’s Inspiration

Sometimes you wanna give up.

Don’t give up, give in.  Give into the leading of the Holy Spirit.  Pray for peace of mind.  Receive it.  Feel His presence come.  Feel the stress dissipate.  Listen for His voice.  Open your Bible and absorb His word.  Pursue peace.  This is what we can’t give up on.  Pursuing peace.  When we’re at peace, everything flows.

What the Ham Sammich Am I Gonna Do With These Kids??? (Summer Freakout Edition)

Hey y’all!
I ain’t playing with that title.  Yeah, I talk about planning and stuff, but there are some areas that are still lacking.  I don’t know WHAT I’m doing with these chirren this summer!  Well, the middle has a STEM camp for 2 weeks, they’ll be going to my parents for a week, but that leaves what, 5 weeks of…dog if I know!

The biggest thing is our business.  We’re both in it full time.  There’s tons that they COULD do to help, but I really am not sure how that’s gonna work.  They can do minor things like cleaning and stocking and stuff, but you don’t want to have your children dread their future empire by making them be there every open hour.

I have some ideas.  We have friends with pools, there are some events that’ll be going on.  There are museums and then there’s my favorite:  family time!  What’s family time?  When a member screams those 2 words, we are (supposed to) congregate and submit ourselves to whatever activity they say to spend time together.  They include but are not limited to:

playing outside (badminton, 2 square, 4 square, basketball, water balloon fight, walking to the park, playing at the park, yardwork-my husband’s evil idea, watching clouds, listening to rain, etc.)
movie time (one of my favorites)
Charades (make your own game and I’m telling you, nothing will be the same!)
YouTube goofy videos (the try not to laugh, cutest animals, funniest videos, etc.)
Mysteries at the Museum (one of our favorite shows on the Travel Channel)

There’s also going to the museums (there are a ton free in NC), taking a drive, walking around in the bigger parks, food festivals, going to the mall, etc.

So there are a lot of options, but with 5 weeks, 35 days, 840 hours…we’ve gotta figure something out!  Any entrepreneurs dealt with this?  Help a sista out!!!

Y’ALL.  I’m stupid excited.  No, let me rephrase.  Stoopud excited about this product!!!  I came across this video on one of my Sunday hairday video binges.  I was so skeptical, but since my daughter has a looser curl than I do, I decided that I’m going to make her the guinea pig!  LOL  Ok, I may try it on mine first.  But check out these 2 videos and tell me what you think!

Another Killer Summer Style, Y’all!!

If you thought the last ‘do was dope (check my post from yesterday), then check THIS one out!  Can you say Bad Mamma Jammer??  Yaaaaaas, honey!  I need this in my life.  I’ve done it and left out my hair so it was like a faux hawk, but it wasn’t protective and after 3 days my hair was so thirsty.  But this…hoooooney.  This will make a fine updo indeed!

Crucial Planning Steps. For the “Daily Grind”

This Little YouTube Girl Just BLESSED MY LIFE! Could This Be Your Summer ‘Do?

I’ve been agonizing over what to do with this hair this summer.  I am in a rut and feeling some kind of way about keeping up with this hair!  The other thing is that it seems that my hair grows by leaps and bounds during the warmer months.  So, what to do???  I need some way to keep it moisturized, healthy and OUT. OF. MY. WAY.  So I knew this was my golden ticket when I found this video!

I need to get to my hair easily without all the drama of it being in individual braids or wearing a full blown wig (those can be hotter than my thick, dense hair-not to mention itchy!).  I think this will do nicely.  What do you guys think??
