You have GOT to hear the message included in this announcement! Comment after you do!
I know you must be wondering how that could be the case. It’s true, though. They saved my business!
I’m an author, but I’m also an entrepreneur. If you’ve followed me a while you’ve heard me mention my business, The Jewelry Lady. I’ve owned this retail store (initially online & now a storefront as well) for over 5 years. I love it! I mean, what woman doesn’t love jewelry, right? But there were many times that I thought about throwing in the towel because I’d come to the end of myself . But countless times my children were there with little nuggets that helped get me out of my funk.
Let’s start with the youngest. She’s 8. While on vacation, we came across a crafter called My Froggy Stuff (I think I told you guys about them before. If not, here’s their YouTube channel-they have 2)
She’s also the reason that her dolls now have a jewelry store & 5 doll houses & a sweet shop (more to come I’m sure)! And did I mention she asked, “Mommy, can I be The Jewelry Lady once you retire?” Priceless.
On to my middle child, age 10. He caught the YouTube bug way before his sister. His fetish? Lego & dinosaurs! He couldn’t get enough. He even used his dad’s camera so much that well, yeah. He broke it. I haven’t told my husband yet. I’ll just have to replace it. But if I remember correctly, there are over 900 pictures that came out into a 6-part Lego video! Talk about creativity & being driven! He’s the reason I started doing videos & kept getting back on the horse when I felt like giving up on ideas.
Finally, the oldest. He’s my heart. There were many occasions when someone shredded a concept, dream or 2-3 day effort for no good reason. He was there with insight, perception & encouragement. He also helped me understand when to let some people go and pray for their hearts. Everyone can’t come with you! I’m just in love with his peaceful ways & his strength. He reminds me so much of my husband. Here’s his current “thing”.
So, that’s it. That’s a few ways that my children saved my business. Oh yeah, the biggest way they helped? They MAKE me play! They remind me when I’ve worked too hard and need to take a movie/popcorn/hotchcolate/dolly/lego/wrestling/cartoon break. They’re the best! There are times that I think they manage me more than I manage them, but hey, as long as they’re doing a good job, why argue?
I hope you enjoyed my post. If you want to check out my store, stop by or shop online!

Good morning!!! I wanted to give you a heads up about 2 events I have coming up this weekend. I know, I know, it’s short notice. But let me be honest-this event wasn’t for everyone. This is a session for those I absolutely knew were in it to win it. And let’s be honest, sometimes things must be done a little differently the first go round.
So what am I getting at?
1. My first info session! I’ll be dishing out all my secrets of how I wrote, published & promoted my book while still working, having a full-time family, running a small business & STILL WRITING MORE BOOKS! Yes! It can be done & you can do it if you are 2 things: serious and flexible.
2. My next speaking engagement! (More about that later)
The sessions are this Friday, June 20th from 6p-7p & 7p-8p. My 6p-7p slot is full & there are 5 spots left in the 7p-8p. Here are topics we’ll cover:
How to find time to write
How to self-publish for less than $50 (cheap, right?!)
How to get your book on Amazon, in bookstores, libraries, colleges & more!
How to write your book FAST without keying one stroke!
How to get your book cover, editing, proofreading & more done for $10 or less!
How to avoid stockpiling your books!
Do you need a license for your business? Not always!
Where to go to get a license for your small business
Taxes and your books or business
Social media for your books & business
How to REALLY only spend 30 minutes a day on your business & THRIVE!
& so much more!
I’ll have a small segment on all these topics & you’ll walk away with more than enough ammo to start, continue or take your project to the next level! For the second half, there will be a Q&A session where I’ll answer YOUR questions.
If you’d like to attend, email me at firstname.lastname@example.org. You CANNOT MISS THIS SESSION!
Ok, on to the next item: I’m speaking at the S.W.A.G. (Standing with all Girls & Guys) Anti-Bullying event on this Saturday! I’ll be speaking with parents about topics such as:
How to spot if your child is suffering from bullying
How to detect if your child is bullying others
How to handle teachers, principals & the school board concerning your child being bullied
When to take things further & when to let things work themselves out
What to teach your child concerning bullying
How to deal with your emotions in check when talking with your child about bullying
This is a partial list, but I am very excited about the opportunity to speak with parents about this topic. Please visit http://www.womenweareone.org/events/ or https://www.facebook.com/events/502010769921075/ for more information or to register for this event!
So check me out at these events!

The holidays can be something else! Planning, cooking, cleaning, parenting! Everything tries to intensify & become overwhelming. But it doesn’t have to be that way! Try these tips to go from distressed to de-stressed!
I. Family calendar taking a beating? Yeah, this time of year can be stressful because it seems like everyone is putting everything within the same 2 weeks! Well, here are some tips from my book:
“Whether paper, dry erase, or electronic, having a family calendar can alleviate a lot of confusion and stress. Logging tasks, homework, bills, grocery lists, meals and date nights keeps them in a place where the entire family has access. It’s hard to follow an unwritten plan.
So when you and your family come up with a plan, keep it simple, straightforward and easy to follow! You can use different colors for different types of events (work, church, school, community, sports) or for the person they correspond to (Mom, Dad, kids, pets). This will reveal the entire family schedule, but still keep it organized according to each person. My husband and I decided from here on out we’ll have the same brand of phone so that we can sync everything. It’s also handy if I have to run out and my battery is low. He’ll switch with me and let his charge or vice versa. If your kids have phones, you can sync with them, too. Keep all calendars in sync and it’ll be smoother sailing when unexpected events pop up. “
II. Another stress trigger? Arts & crafts! As much as I LOVE crafting with the kids, they don’t like to clean up as much as I like them to. So, I had to make an area for them to get crafty without it getting crazy! Here’s some ideas from my book:
“Having an area mandated for all things artsy and craftsy keeps the kids focused and allows all potential messes to be contained in a specific area. Be sure it’s an area that is “oops” resistant (no carpet, dent resistant, glue and glitter tolerant). It may help for it to be near a window. Sometimes fumes from spray glue, paint and cleaners will need to be ventilated. If you’ve dedicated an entire room or part of a room, maybe hang or frame their art there for display. That way there’s less to store. We let the kids hang their art in their room so we don’t have so much to store. My daughter is currently in the “making things for Mommy” (constantly) stage, so I got a notebook filled with clear sleeves and started collecting her artwork. This will be neatly stored in the mementos area of the hall closet or the family room bookshelf for browsing. The boys are a bit different. The middle one is 8 and the oldest is 12, so they’re into building 3D things. I can just take pics with my phone and put them on my flash drive.”
So, I hope I’ve helped you with some ideas on how to decrease the stress during the holiday season. Just an update: I’ve been working on this book (Are We There Yet? How NOT to Kill Your Kids Before They Turn 18) for about a month & I’ve come across some really interesting requests! I’ve met moms of boys who want odor removing advice, moms with eye-rolling kids who want advice & parents who just want me to hurry up & get this book out!
One of the questions I get the most is when do I have time to write? Well, it’s not always a constant thing. It can be 10 minutes here, 30 minutes there & sometimes one or two hours. The biggest thing I’ve discovered is how to snatch time. It may mean dictating to my cell phone (I use an app called ColorNote to take down & email material for the book) as I’m waiting between appointments, putting a few paragraphs down while the kids are napping or between household chores. It can be challenging sometimes, but it’s more than worth it.
If you’d like to get my first book, you can find it here as well as on amazon.com and on Kindle. So what are your questions about how to find times to write as a mom? Do you have any tips you’d like to shout from the rooftops?

The keyboard can be killer! Even though I can type really, really fast (I used to key mail for USPS-need I say more?), sometimes my neck just screams at me to take a break. The problem? The words are still coming & I need to get them down! My solution? Whip out my handy dandy cell phone! I have an app named ColorNote which I use for a ton of things (grocery lists, reminders, random thoughts) but most importantly, writing books. ColorNote allows me to use my speakerphone to compose a note to myself & I can email it, save it, put a timed alarm on it, etc. You can even color code them (green for groceries, red for writing, blue for blogs) to keep it all organized. Now, I could also use the speakerphone to compose an email & send it to myself, but my phone takes many more button pushes to write an email than the 3 taps required to start a new note. ColorNote also auto-saves so if you back out accidentally, it’ll be there when you go back! This app has been a life saver & a neck saver! It is on the android system & I’m sure they have something comparable for the iphone, ipad, etc. Now if you already knew this, don’t dog me out. Just give me a pat on the back for catching up to the rest of the technologically savvy world!! What cool app or other item have you discovered that really makes your life easier?
Thanks for listening & happy writing!
